Your wedding day is full of moments you'll likely want to cherish forever. But how do you decide what moments are important to just be present for and what moments should you want to be captured on film forever? We've reached out to this month's vendor spotlight, Scott & Dana Photographers, for their advice on the matter :) Scott & Dana Photographers Scott & Dana are married photographers known for their light and airy photography style. The dynamic duo covers all bases and makes the perfect team to photograph all of your "can't miss" moments. They've been in business for over 11 years and their favorite part about being in the wedding photography business is, "the ride of it all-- getting to be part of the most exciting and most memorable day of peoples' lives. And getting to help them remember it more clearly and beautifully." Scott & Dana tie their professionalism with a warm and caring demeanor. They pride themselves on and want couples to know, "that [photography] comes with endless work, if you want to be good. It's not just the taking photos. It's all the pre-planning, the scouting, the communication with client and planner beforehand, and all of the post-wedding organizing, editing, communication and sharing of images." 3 Most Memorable Moments Now here's a snippet from Scott & Dana to get you started on the shots you'll want to make sure are on your photographer's list. 1. The walk down the aisle, whether it be alone or with a parent or with another important person to you. Bonus points if it's from both perspectives of in front of you and behind you! 2. The first time the couple sees each other on the wedding day. Whether it be the first look, the first steps down the aisle, or a while you're getting ready together. 3. You'll be surprised how distracting your wedding day can be. Be sure to capture a true moment of connection between the couple. That moment where you can tell it's JUST THEM...that their bonding through experience of the day is really the most important part of their wedding. Vendor Wedding Advice Every vendor has a piece of advice for potential wedding couples as every vendor experiences a wedding from a different perspective. Scott & Dana's advice is, "choose the professionals who will work with you to make your day be everything you want it to be, be diligent and involved through planning, and then BE PRESENT on the wedding day, while you trust your chosen professionals to make it all happen <3" Real Testimonials "Working with Scott and Dana was one of the highlights of our entire wedding experience, hands down. From the first phone call, we recognized that not only were they incredibly professional and would produce the highest quality work, but they were also just FUN and interesting people to work with! Their love for each other and for their profession is palpable, which makes working with them such a rewarding and fulfilling experience. You spend a LOT of time with your photographers on your wedding day, more so than you realize, and we felt SO lucky to have Scott and Dana by our sides. They helped to keep everything on track, calmed us down when we got nervous, and reminded us to stay present during an incredibly busy day. From the informational booklet they sent us when we booked them, to our engagement photo shoot, to the wedding day timeline they helped create, to the continued communication post-wedding, we truly could not have asked for a better pair of photographers or a better experience. You can stop searching now because you’ve already come across the best of the best! Seriously, take this one off the wedding to-do list and book Scott and Dana today!" We'll leave you with this fun fact - "We once won a convertible Volkswagen Beetle in a kissing contest! We kissed for 36 hours with a 5 min break every hour, competing with 93 other couples, and we WON! Not only that, we got better at kissing!"...and what could be better than a couple in love photographing a newlywed couple in love ;) Want to pick our brains on other amazing vendors you could hire for your wedding day? Enjoy reading about their love story and what made their wedding day so special. Their Love Story Bella and Billy have been together for 8 glorious years and originally met in Davis, California while attending college at UC Davis. The two were coworkers at their apartment complex and bonded over pizza deliveries to their residents! When the day came to propose, Billy planned a date on their 6-year anniversary. With the help of Bella's cousin, Billy had arranged a wine tasting date at Domaine Chandon Winery in Napa Valley. When they arrived there was a large arrangement of Bella's favorite flowers and a violinist playing Taylor Swift's "Love Story." (Are you crying yet!?) Billy got down on one knee, recited "Love Story" lyrics, and proposed. He even thought to dress up their dog in a bow tie for the occasion! The Wedding Day When it came to wedding planning some of the most important things to the couple were having an intimate and smaller guest count since they wanted to be able to spend time with everyone who attended. Everyone who attended had a part in the couple's love story and made an impact on their relationship. Bella was the visionary behind the design and aesthetic. Their wedding was full of elegant and delicate details. Every color, texture, flower, candle, linen played their part beautifully in their English Countryside Garden aesthetic. They also wanted to include personalized touches from their guestbook showcasing their love letters over the years to their custom signature cocktails to tribute Billy's bartending profession! Mickey, their beloved dog who had just passed shortly before the wedding, was present in photos and custom illustrated cocktail napkins. The Couple's Favorite Parts Bella's favorite wedding day moment was their first look. She remembers feeling restless all morning, but finally being able to see Billy and spend time together melted the nerves and stress away. She was, "surprised by how emotional I got!" Billy's favorite moment were the speeches during the reception. To him, this was when everything finally sank in. He recalls, "hearing our story told through the lens of some of our favorite people, and knowing how much our friends love my wife, I was overwhelmed with happiness at that point!" Couple's Advice The couple chose to work with Tan Weddings & Events because "we loved Jennifer & Rick's welcoming and calm energy. After the first call, we felt really reassured and knew that they put the couple first. It was clear that they were pros and that we'd be in good hands!" When it came to choosing Park Winters as their venue, the couple had "toured across venues northern and southern California, bun funnily enough landed back at Park Winters was the very first venue we saw. The grounds were just so beautiful, and it offered a little bit of everything we liked: outdoor and indoor space, luscious greenery, and historic charm. The staff was also so kind and great to work with!" These are all great factors to consider when looking for a wedding venue that speaks to you. The final tip Bella & Billy would share with other couples in the wedding planning process would be, "as important as your wedding is, it should ultimately be something you're excited about. Sometimes the stress of planning can be overwhelming and make you want to give up, so just take a step back and remember why it's happening. If you're frustrated, communicate with your spouse and remember that you are partners." We couldn't have said it better ourselves :) In need of a wedding planner to bring your wedding vision to life? This is such a happy and exciting time for you, your partner, and your friends & families involved. If you're anything like us and like to plan ahead, you might be wondering what wedding vendors you need to start researching first and even more importantly, in what order! We're here to give you our opinion on the first three vendors we think would be beneficial to hire initially. THE WEDDING PLANNER. The planner is the frontline resource whose experience is invaluable in finding the best venue, assembling the best team, and optimizing your wedding budget. Hiring them first gives the couple an overarching support throughout the planning and production. Even if you have clear ideas of what you want, your planner is an expert in the field and will have ways of creating your dream ideas in the most efficient way possible! THE VENUE. With the help of the planner, securing the venue is important. Planners often have worked at multiple venues in the area and will know what works well for certain weddings and what does not. This is hugely beneficial as just because a venue looks pretty, doesn't necessarily mean it's the perfect fit for you! The venue sets the stage for the whole celebration, so it's important to secure it next and lock in a date to begin researching the vendors to follow. THE CATERER. Great food is consistently at the top of clients’ priority lists, so getting a caterer on board who has worked at the venue, has a full service team, and is passionate about great food is key! Some venues have full service caterers onsite already, but some venues you'll need to hire one familiar with offsite service. There's a wide variety of levels of quality when it comes to caterers and they specialize with different aspects. They'll not only be in charge of the food, but also set the tables, pour wine tableside, clear dirty dishes, and make sure your stations stay stocked! Want to know who we'd recommend hiring next? Needless to say, we definitely have our favorite details we wanted to highlight as areas to keep in mind while on your wedding planning journey! A BEAUTIFUL PLACE-SETTING. When the flatware, glassware, plateware, linens, menu and guest card all work cohesively to meet the aesthetic AND the meal service, dinner becomes a real treat. The charger is often an essential element that binds it all together. CEREMONY FOCAL POINT. Whether a lavish arch of florals, a portico draped in sheer linens, a magnificent vineyard, or a stand of majestic oaks, the ceremony backdrop and space should be thoughtfully chosen and logistics carefully planned. Even making sure the center aisle has the perfect width, and is precisely lined up! (One of my pet peeves is a misaligned center aisle!!) SWEETHEART TABLE PLACEMENT. We prefer this over a head table configuration - the couple gets some privacy and a buffer zone while still enjoying their company. Make it a romantic space, its location chosen to take advantage of the couple’s perspective. ATTIRE. Specifically for the suiting. Wedding gowns are important too, but these pieces are typically well thought out and accounted for with most weddings! For another attire piece often overlooked, take the time to invest in well-fitting, good quality suits, and accessories that are not an after-thought but carefully chosen to fit with the personality and vibe of the occasion. BAR and APPS. Cocktail hour is a special and unique part of wedding day, where guests get to mingle and chat. Make the bar a focal point with top shelf drinks, specialty cocktails, or fun decor. Take the time to choose some fabulously presented apps, whether passed (preferable) or a charcuterie table. Want to know more? We're here to help you every step along the way! Check! Venue? Check! Caterer? Check! What's next? Photographer!.... Now what?! It's time to hire a wedding photographer and you don't know where to start? We're here to provide you some key tips to consider when starting your research. We've reached out to one of our favorite photographers, Nicole Sepulveda Photography, for her take on the matter as well! Nicole Sepulveda Photography Nicole started her photography journey at the Academy of Art for Fine Art originally majoring in Illustration. Photography fell into her lap by accident, but once she learned the mechanics of a camera, the rest was history. Nicole has been a photographer since 2002 and loves, "being able to work on projects (whether they are weddings or commercial gigs) and seeing it come together with the collaboration of multiple people." One of Nicole's many talents is capturing those perfect candid shots! But something you might not know is, "the candid portraits that people think are completely organic are actually directed; and it takes time to get the photos you see in photographers' portfolios!" So be sure to take into account photography timing when selecting how many of those amazing wedding shots you want for your memories! 3 Tips to Consider We asked Nicole for her top three tips she'd give as advice to couples who are looking for their perfect wedding photographer. The first tip Nicole gives is, "be mindful of 'portfolio' work versus what the client gets in their gallery. Be sure to ask to see a recent real wedding; this is likely easier to do in person or via Zoom as not all client galleries are accessible through email." This will ensure your expectations of what the photographer is able to provide are clear and you know exactly what you are paying for ahead of time! Not all wedding photographers are their own private business, some work under larger media companies or studios so if this is the case for you, Nicole advises, "when going with a studio or business that has multiple photographers, make sure you've seen the photographer's photos and know exactly who you are getting before booking." Photography is an art form like anything else and everyone has their own take on it, so it's important to be on board with the style and aesthetic that a photographer is able to provide! The last tip Nicole gave us was, "make sure you vibe with your photographer! You're going to be together all day, and no matter how great their photos are, if your personalities clash, it's going to be a long day!" The last thing you want is for any unnecessary tension on your wedding day! We'll end this with one added piece of advice from Nicole - "Don't sweat the small stuff, be sure to take time throughout the day to just take it all in. Weddings take forever to plan, and the day goes by in a blink. Take a moment to just be present every so often to engrave it in your memories." Real Reviews "It's no surprise that I chose the same photographer as my older sister for mine and my now wife's wedding. Professional is an understatement when it comes to describing Nicole and her artistic level of storytelling. She is everything you would want in a photographer for any event! Nicole is prompt, knows what she wants, and will do whatever she can to achieve it. What stood out for us was her flexibility. If things out of her control went south she adapted quickly, which is hard to find in a photographer these days. She is easy going, knows how to make her clients laugh, feel comfortable, and show them a fun time while getting the shots she envisions to tell her story. Nicole is a truly talented artist and performs under pressure effortlessly! Best of all, she is very affordable. If you're looking for a wedding photographer, then look no further, Nicole is the be all end all." - 25 Eight films Ready for us to help you build your dream vendor team? Bring Inspiration Pictures Come prepared with a few inspiration pictures for makeup and hair. It's important to remember saying, "I want something natural and timeless" is not enough direction. Not all "naturals" are created equally. You might have a different vision on what you think "natural" means compared to the previous clients the artist had before. If you are waiting to discuss with your stylist what makeup or hair they would recommend based on your vision, aesthetics, and physical features, it's still important to bring a few inspiration pictures that showcase the level of glam you are hoping to achieve at the very least! Budget for Your Trials Be sure to ask your potential hair & makeup artists quotes for their trials when inquiring about their wedding services. Trials are typically priced separately, so it's important to make sure you note the costs associated ahead of time and how it fits into your budget! Be Selective Decision fatigue is a real thing! The last thing you want to feel is overwhelmed during your hair & makeup trial. Limit your audience to just one, maybe two, people to go along with you. Make sure these guests have taste you respect and a way of delivering feedback in a kind manner. You'll want to avoid having a million different opinions to consider and having a smaller audience will make it easier to focus on what makes you feel beautiful first and foremost. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate. Drink plenty of water, not just the day of your trial, not just the day before your trial, but the entire week or even weeks leading up to your trial. Our bodies are made up of 50-60% of water and our skin is impacted by this easily. Water helps with dry skin, dry lips, fine lines and wrinkles, and overall texture and bounce that our skin needs to look its best! But like most things - consistency is key to see the most positive effect! Bonus tip - be sure to also get plenty of sleep :) Bring Your Accessories or Hold Off Purchasing Do you have a vintage hair pin someone passed down to you? Do you have glamorous and dramatic earrings you want to make sure have a moment? Is your veil especially unique where certain hairstyles might not work? Bring these items to your trial so your hair stylist can play with them and create a style to suit everything perfectly! Or, planning time permitted, hold off on purchasing any accessories at all until after your trials entirely. Speak Up If you're the type of person who never sends food back at a restaurant or is hesitant to raise concerns in customer service settings in general, your hair and makeup trial is not the place to hold back. Be confident in your concerns, adjustments, or questions that you might have - this is why we have trials in the first place afterall! Your hair or makeup artist will not be offended with changes you might want as this meeting is to make sure they have your vision right to feel your most beautiful self on your wedding day. A Moment of Joy Amidst cheers of excitement and joyful approval, Annie and Jonathan held hands as they walked the aisle as newlyweds. Beaming with radiant smiles, the couple made their way to a grassy knoll overlooking the vineyard, followed by their wedding party. Rick Tan, principal planner with Tan Weddings & Events, had motioned for all of them to gather for photos. With a mix of pride, gratitude, and sheer joy, Rick and the newlyweds fell into an embrace, a genuine hug of happiness. Collaboration In Action As planners, we share in the celebration of a couple’s commitment and connection. It is why we do what we do! When we have built that level of trust and respect, the flow of creativity and care follows, and it informs every level of our work in planning, designing, and executing the event. For Annie and Jonathan, the planning meant being involved from start to finish, developing their vision, securing a top notch vendor team, collaborating with design decisions, and being timely with deadlines. TWE kept them and the vendors in the loop of all aspects of the planning process to create a cohesive aesthetic that maximized the vineyard setting at BR Cohn. It culminated in a fabulous summer event that was elegant and fun, celebrating the couple’s love and joy, shared with family, friends, and their planners! Vendor List

Who doesn't love the fresh smells, textures, and colors they bring to any wedding design scape. Florals can be customized to fit your aesthetic and dress up an event in ways that other decor lacks. Florals can be a large wedding expense though, so we're here to share some ways to help save! J Blooms J Blooms is owned and ran by Jessica Prince and she's been a florist for an amazing 5 years! Jessica is known for her garden gathered, natural aesthetic, beautifully delicate and elegant arrangements. Her favorite part about being a florist is, "creating beautiful arrangements and working at such wonderful venues throughout Napa Valley. I love the creative aspect of this career and being able to work with so many amazing flowers!" Jessica's advice when it comes to choosing the perfect florist for you is "choose them because you love their work. In turn, this will allow you to feel comfortable giving more creative freedom to your florist, and the end result will be amazing!" Repurposing Florals One of Jessica's favorite ways to repurpose florals in a wedding is, "ground aisle florals from your ceremony make a great statement in front of the band, or at the base of your cake table for a fun 'wow' moment!" Whenever you can, repurposing ceremony arrangements are a great way to add florals to other spaces without as high of an added cost. Bud vases at the ends of chair rows make great cocktail table arrangements. Large alter arrangements can later frame the sweetheart table beautifully. A floral arch is a great photo back drop in the reception space. Even your bridesmaid's bouquets can be added arrangements around your sweetheart table or other lounge areas. Jessica points out when considering ways to repurpose florals is, "that florals are extremely fragile and we work tirelessly to ensure that they are looking beautiful and perfect for your wedding day, especially during the hot months!" Although you won't be investing additional floral costs, additional labor or staffing costs might apply to make sure your florist has an adequate team on site to make these on the fly changes when the time is right, but typically this method still ends up saving you money - and who doesn't love that! :) Other Tips The night has come to a beautiful end, now what to do with all of these beautiful arrangements? Many florists will assemble arrangements in compotes or vases that guests can pop out of their vessels and take home. Another great use for florals is donate them to a local women's shelter or nursing home as they always brighten someone's day. When it comes to your bouquet, consider drying and preserving it as a special memory from your wedding day! Need help choosing the perfect florist to complete your wedding vision? Now I'm sure you can imagine, couples might feel a lot of pressure to choose the perfect first dance song. What goes into a couple choosing a certain tune for this special moment? We wanted to dive a layer deeper and find out from a fellow wedding vendor who would know best, Matt Brys with Extreme Productions Entertainment! Extreme Productions Entertainment Matt has been in business for an amazing 28 years! Each and every one of them enjoyable. There's a lot to love about being in the DJ business, but what Matt loves most is, "The people. Hands down. From the amazing vendors we have the pleasure to work alongside to the wonderful couples and clients we are blessed to share experiences with...it's always about the people." Give Us the Songs! Amongst Extreme Productions Entertainment's clientele, the most recent First Dance songs featured have been: "Simply the Best" (from Schitts Creek) by Noah Reid "Lady May" by Tyler Childers "Joy of My Life" by Chris Stapleton "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran "You Are The Best Thing" by Ray LaMontagne Based on some further research some additional current top first dance songs are the following (some truly current, some forever classic): "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley "Lover" by Taylor Swift "At Last" by Etta James "Better Together" by Luke Combs "Beyond" by Leon Bridges All of these songs have one thing in common - they are undeniably love letters. Think of your first dance as a moment written in time, a love letter shared through movement instead of words. When choosing a first dance song, there is not right or wrong way - find a song that resonates with your soul knowing you'll be able to cherish it for years to come. Real Reviews! "I really don't know where to begin, but how about here? Thank you! Thank you so much for being so good at what you do and really bringing a wedding ceremony and reception together! We received so many compliments about you, the music, the way you kept the wedding and reception moving, and just overall YOU! (We) are thrilled with everything you did, and mostly we really like you! From the pre-meetings, the thought and care of what works best at weddings, to the up-lighting, music selections, getting to know us, sending recordings to make sure you had the versions we wanted, all just awesome! I do want to let you know that the Homewood Marina, next door to Westshore Café (our venue), told (us) it was the best music they have heard from a wedding ever. I truly believe they said ever! :) Trust me if we ever have a reason for entertainment, you will be the ONE! We love you Matt, and our hearts are so full with all that you did before during and after our wedding!" Besides cueing up the perfect songs with smooth timing, keeping the pulse of your party going, and being a charismatic emcee, Matt's fun fact he wanted to share is, "when I drive home from a wedding, I don't listen to music. It's either a podcast or silence and the wind from the window. ALSO - Taco Bell at the end of a wedding day just hits different :)" We loved spotlighting Extreme Productions Entertainment and are happy to assist you in finding stellar vendors to make up your wedding dream team!
