At Viansa Winery atop a summit of Sonoma, California, a couple from the Philippines hosted their wedding celebration amidst the March majesty of budding grape vines, billowing clouds, and panoramic views of mountains and protected wetlands. Unbeknownst to the couple and Tan Weddings & Events, who coordinated the event, the wedding would become especially significant. Just two days later, California’s governor issued a statewide shelter-in-place in response to the global crisis. The world came to a halt, and for the newlyweds Julienne and Derrick, their wedding was a blessing in so many ways.
Yes, it was gorgeous - the florals and decor were the work of brilliant creatives. Yes, the food was delicious - Park Avenue plated an amazing feast. Yes, the setting was exquisite - Viansa Winery boasts stunning views and indoor spaces. But the true blessing was in the meaningfulness of the occasion. It brought a family together of elder siblings, their spouses, and their children - the couple and their cousins, who brought their spouses and their children. From 8 to 80 years old, the family witnessed a ceremony performed by the bride’s cousin (Rick Tan, co-owner of Tan Weddings & Events), the family shared a meal, they danced, they talked and hugged and laughed. That day, despite the worries of the world, love and dedication kept the newlyweds and their families safe, protected, blessed.
