Wedding Favors—Necessary or Out of Style?

​One of the many wedding traditions in the U.S. and other parts of the world is to give guests small gifts to thank them for celebrating with you. Couples often wonder, “how do I choose something cheap but meaningful?” or “does it look bad if I don’t have wedding favors for my guests?” Contrary to what you may believe, wedding favors are NOT necessary and many couples are shifting away from this tradition.

Here’s a list of reasons why you should consider skipping the wedding favors:

1. Guests don’t expect them. You may be worried about what your guests will think if you break this tradition. Truth is, they are likely to not even notice. Your guests come to celebrate you, gather with family, take pictures, eat good food, and dance--not to receive gifts.
2. Guests don’t want them. It is difficult (if not impossible) to find a simple gift that each of your guests will sincerely enjoy. They may appreciate the gesture, but they often leave them behind at the end of the night (unintentionally or not). Guests travelling from afar might not be able to take additional items back with them regardless. 
3. They’re a waste of money. If you’re in the process of planning a wedding you know how incredibly expensive it can be. Wedding favors should be one of the first components that you cut from your budget. As mentioned above, many get thrown away or left over. Spend the money elsewhere or save it for yourselves.
